Research collaboration
Researching digital money
together
We are looking for academic partners who will bring measurement, behaviour and technical design together around the same question.
The question we are working on
What safeguards do people expect from digital money? CBDC-SPAR aims to develop a Turkish measurement tool that separates expectations concerning surveillance, privacy, payment autonomy and legal redress. SPAR stands for Surveillance, Privacy, Autonomy, Redress.
The project is led by Harun KINACI and Tarık İsmet ALKAN at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University. The qualitative interview and content validity study has ethics approval; scale development and the design choice experiment are planned studies.
Open topics for collaboration
- Measurement and cross-cultural validity: actor-parallel items, cognitive interviews, scale adaptation and measurement invariance.
- Agent-based modelling: examining the conversion between CBDC, cash and bank deposits by separating assumptions about speed, limits, social influence and liquidity.
- Privacy and legal redress: the relationship between access to payment data, payment autonomy and expectations of effective redress, and technical design.
How we can begin together
The first step is to discuss a shared research question and a feasible comparative design. We welcome contributions from qualitative methods, psychometrics, computational social science and digital money. Data collection in new countries or with new participant groups will be planned separately, with the relevant ethics and data management procedures.
